Œnological Lunar Society of Minnesota

Good OLSM fun!

We convene on the Saturday nearest the full moon for the purpose of experimentation in the œnological arts. These monthly meetings, absent alternate specification, take place at the home of Magister and Mis'ess Cammeresi where the house provides an evening repast. Monthy OLSM dues are paid in the form of one bottle of wine in accordance with the stated theme. In addition to yourself, you may sponsor any compeer of sufficiently good cheer and moral character provided that he, also, is accompanied by a bottle of wine.

19 July 2008: Southern Wines

The Society commends Ms. Hofius for her gracious hosting and this fine metrical composition:

Come one, come y’all
And bring yo’ best Southun’ drawl
To toast the July full moon
Which will, sho’ nuff, show itself soon
At the OLSM event themed Southun’ wine
(Wine from any Southun’ region is fine)
I’ll be cookin’ some food on the grill
And so y’all can eat yo’ fill
Please let me know if you will be able to attend
And if you will be bringing a friend.

CURRENT MOON
In vino veritas.
In respect to ale and wine I would advise you to live according to your sensations, that is, to take just as much as your digestion seems to require; as either more or less would injure you.
My Christian brother, be kind and benevolent like God, and do not spoil his good work. He made wine to gladden the heart of man; — do not, therefore, when at table you see your neighbour pour wine into his glass, be eager to mingle water with it. What would you drown truth?
I do here present them with a few easy Directions, drawn from some Years Experience, which, if they will follow, they may furnish themselves with a wholesome sprightly Claret, which will keep for several Years, and is not inferior to that which passeth for French Claret.
WINE, n. Fermented grape-juice known to the Women's Christian Union as "liquor," sometimes as "rum." Wine, madam, is God's next best gift to man.
Do you dare to accuse wine of clouding the reason? Quote me more marvellous effects than those of wine. Look! when a man drinks, he is rich, everything he touches succeeds, he gains lawsuits, is happy and helps his friends. Come, bring hither quick a flagon of wine, that I may soak my brain and get an ingenious idea.
